Yellow Turtle (Nobody You Know II), Oil on Canvas, 38”x44”, 2025 PRICE: $6,000
A modern interpretation of “Judith with the Head of Holofernes” by Cristofano Allori
(Italy, 1613) depicting the defeat of general Holofernes (Assyria).
From the Book of Judith, an invading Assyrian army sieged the town of Bethulia (modern Samaria) plundering their wealth and crops.
Judith prays to God for her people’s salvation when her beauty is taken notice by
Holofernes. He invites her back to his tent where she seduces him until he falls into a
drunken slumber. Judith takes his own sword and slits his throat while he sleeps.
Judith escapes with his head and has it displayed at the city capital the following morning.
